Water: from foe to friend

The World’s engineering academies gather in Rotterdam to bring together frontier engineering solutions for global challenges around the theme water.

27–30 September 2027 · Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Why attend

Built for engineers who work where water meets opportunity.

CAETS 2027 is where members of national academies of engineering and other water experts compare notes on frontier engineering solutions to the problem defining this century: too much water, too little, or too dirty. Three reasons delegates travel from all over the world to be in the room.

Frontier knowledge, first

Two days of keynotes and parallel sessions across safety, quantity, drinking water, quality, treatment, infrastructure, energy and maritime engineering, presented by experts driving each field.

High-level access

CAETS convenes members of the national engineering academies of 31 countries. This is peer-to-peer, decision-maker access, with direct lines to policymakers across the world.

See it built, not just presented

Technical tours bring delegates to some of the most impressive waterworks the Netherlands has built.

The theme

Water is the cornerstone for life, and, increasingly, the hardest engineering problem we have.

Climate change is making water difficult to work with: weather extremes, rising sea levels and pressure on water quality. CAETS 2027 asks what a systems-level combination of engineering and nature-based solutions looks like, capitalising on the opportunities water brings while minimising its risks.

27 – 30 September 2027

Two days of programme. One day in the field.

A plenary-and-parallel format across Tuesday and Wednesday, closing with technical excursions on Thursday, fittingly, hosted aboard the SS Rotterdam, a ship on the water.

Tue 28 Sept

Systems & safety

Opening keynote on a systems-engineering approach to water, plus safety, energy, maritime and drinking-water sessions. Closes with the Welcome Reception.

Wed 29 Sept

Quality & cooperation

International perspectives on water cooperation, then quality, quantity, waste-water treatment and infrastructure sessions. Closes with the CAETS Statement and a gala dinner.

Thu 30 Sept

Technical tours

Excursions to organisations at the front line of Dutch water engineering, from storm-surge defences to port infrastructure.

Join engineers from 31 countries in Rotterdam.

Register your interest now to be the first to know when ticket sales open up, so you can secure your place at the symposium exploring how engineering turns water from a risk into an asset.
